    The Bucks County district attorney’s race was one of the most high-profile row office contests in Tuesday’s primary election. So, why did the candidates in both parties get so few votes? Some political observers say the ballot design is to blame. Republican candidate Jennifer Schorn received 6.5 percent fewer votes than the other GOP row office candidates. Democrat Joe Khan had 5.5 percent fewer votes than the other candidates in his party.

    The Democrat-controlled Bucks County Commission on Wednesday adopted a resolution designed to block the GOP sheriff from cooperating with federal immigration officials in apprehending criminal aliens. Bucks County Sheriff Fred Harran recently announced his department is entering an agreement with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) to cooperate with enforcement actions under its 287(g) program. Hundreds of local law enforcement agencies have done the same across the country.

    Judicial candidates Maria C. Battista and Matthew Wolford won their Republican primaries Tuesday, and they will be the party’s standard bearers for two appellate-level court openings in November. In the battle for Superior Court, Battista defeated Chester County Common Pleas President Judge Ann Marie Wheatcraft, who was the party’s endorsed candidate. Battista, from Clarion County, garnered 54 percent of the vote to Wheatcraft’s 46 percent. Battista was the endorsed candidate when she ran in 2023.

    When a tax cut for gun owners came before the U.S. House Rules Committee Wednesday, Democrat Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Pa.) was one of the first to try and shoot it down. The amendment to President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” offered by Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.), a veteran and small business owner, would have removed the $200 tax on suppressors, also known as silencers. Dean not only rejected the tax cut but called for the tax on suppressors to be doubled or tripled.

    Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner sailed into a third term Tuesday, handily beating Democratic primary challenger Patrick Dugan, a former municipal court judge. At deadline Tuesday evening, Krasner held a 60 to 40 percent lead. Krasner, 64, was first elected along with several other progressive prosecutors around the country with the help of funds from Democratic mega-donor George Soros.
