The 3rd Annual Cindy Walker Days is Saturday, July 19th, at TJ Ranch on Highway 84 in Mexia.

MEXIA, Texas — Mexia is widely known for how difficult it is to pronounce the town's name correctly, but did you know it was the Birthplace of Juneteenth? It's also the site of historic Fort Parker that tells the story of settlers and Native Americas. In the 1950s, Mexia became the hometown of Country Music Hall of Fame Songwriter Cindy Walker who went on to write her biggest hits in her home on Brooks Street.

Hernández spoke to a packed crowd at McLennan Community College, describing his inspirational journey from farmworker in California to becoming a NASA astronaut. Hernández's journey inspired the making of the 2023 film, "A Million Miles Away," which is available on Amazon Prime. Hernández grew up in Stockton, California, but his family is from Mexico.

The Fairfield High School graduate recently hit the stage for her first singer-songwriter performance and looks forward to the journey ahead. "Music just really, I feel like I can express myself better. I'm not really good at talking but through songs, it helps me get through it," said Zadie. Zadie says songwriting helps her connect with herself and the world. "It's just how I'm feeling, I guess, in the moment.
