NOW, SCIENTISTS ARE WORKING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT’S BEHIND AN INCREASE IN WHALE DEATHS. FIVE WHALES HAVE DIED IN THE BAY AREA IN THE LAST WEEK. THAT BRINGS THIS YEAR’S TOTAL TO 14. 13 OF THEM WERE GRAY WHALES, AND OFFICIALS SAY SHIP STRIKES CAUSED THREE DEATHS. WILDLIFE OFFICIALS SAY THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO THIS. MANY GRAY WHALE DEATHS IN YEARS.

A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody after a woman was carjacked at gunpoint and the boy led deputies on a pursuit, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office. The pursuit ended with a crash.The sheriff's office said the carjacking was reported just before 10 p.m., when the victim walked into a store along Sunrise Boulevard near Douglas Road and said her car was stolen by someone who held her at gunpoint.
