Proving again that growth is possible in the restaurant sector is Vancouver's own Glowbal Group, which announced Thursday (April 17) its plan for a massive new concept for the city's Financial District. Named for Glowbal's President & CEO, Emad Yacoub, Gigi’s will occupy an 8,000-square-foot space in downtown Vancouver, though an exact location was not indicated.

Vancouver's popular upscale Japanese grocery store and grab-and-go eats spot will soon have a third location on its roster, as Aburi Restaurants Canada has revealed it will be opening a new Aburi Market in the city's downtown core. Aburi Market is taking over the space at 609 Granville St that had until recently been a second outpost of local gourmet grocery Meinhardt Fine Foods; the store closed its downtown location in March but continues to operate in South Granville.

TORONTO — Measles has spread to 109 more people in Ontario over the last week, bringing the province’s total cases to 925 since an outbreak began in October. Sixty-nine people have required hospitalization – that’s eight more than last week – including four in intensive care. Measles is still predominantly infecting unvaccinated infants, children and adolescents in southwestern Ontario. Cases in Alberta have also been climbing since March, with 83 confirmed as of Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump slammed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Thursday, reiterating his frustration that the Fed has not aggressively cut interest rates and saying that the central bank leader's "termination cannot come fast enough.” Trump hinted at moving to fire Powell, whose term does not expire until May 2026.
