It's the end of chapter for one branch of a popular Vancouver pizza restaurant, but the story is far from over. The 701 Kingsway location of Straight Outta Brooklyn is set to close on June 30, ahead of a site redevelopment. Straight Outta Brooklyn is one of several businesses in the strip mall on Kingsway at Fraser that will be departing as demolition looms; neighbour Ba Le is also saying goodbye to its 38-year-old Vietnamese sandwich shop and deli in the same plaza.

Just in time for summer, Vancouver has a new ice cream shop. Kobo Ice Cream opened its doors officially on June 18 at 2541 Main St in Mount Pleasant. Cream Mint Florist was previously at that address. The ice cream shop features small-batch hard pack ice cream in classic flavours like chocolate and vanilla, along with creations like Orange Chocolate Chip, Walnut Fig, and Strawberry Rhubarb. They also have vegan fruit sorbets like peach and raspberry.

A Kerrisdale bakeshop business run by sisters has closed, though the owners say they have plans to re-launch in the future. Sweet e's launched in 2005 and is the venture of the Tsang sisters. Located at 2032 W 41st Ave, Sweet e's was loved in the community and known for their custom cakes. Eleanor Tsang served as Sweet e's pastry chef, while sister Kathleen was the general manager. A third sister, Theresa, pitched in, according to the bakery's website.

As Vancouver's venerable La Taqueria enters its final stretch before welcoming guests to its new location downtown, the restaurant will be wooing tastebuds with a free taco day. On July 1 (Canada Day), La Taqueria will celebrate by giving out 500 tacos at their soon-to-open Seymour and Hastings location. From 4 p.m. until they're all out of tacos, the first 500 folks to show up will each get one free taco.
