MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -The Meridian Branch of the Mississippi Asthma and Allergy Clinic joined the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation Thursday. This clinic has been in Meridian for years providing allergy tests and treating seasonal allergies, asthma, food allergies, rashes, hives and more. They are excited to join the EMBDC as allergy season is in full swing. “We’ve been welcomed by the community from churches to schools,” said Stephen LeBlanc, a physician and allergist.

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -The ninth ranked Ole Miss Rebels won the final two games over Kentucky last weekend to clinch their third consecutive SEC series for the first time since 2018. The Rebels (24-7, 8-4) will host Tennessee this weekend. Southern Mississippi lost their first three-game series of the season, dropping two contests to the Marshall Thundering Herd. It was also only the second time in the long history of the series that Marshall has won a series from USM.

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department now has a new means to fight crime in our area. Sheriff Ward Calhoun invited the media out Friday to show off their new Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle, or MRAPY for short. It’s a type of armored personnel carrier that is designed to withstand land mines, explosive devices and to save lives. Calhoun says this is a 2013 model in excellent shape and will be used only in certain situations.

(WTOK) -Earlier this week, family members and friends of the late former Meridian Mayor Cheri Barry gathered to officially dedicate a segment of Highway 39 North to remember her legacy. Sponsored by District 33 Senator Jeff Tate, House Bill Number 1681 designated a one mile stretch of Highway 39 as the Cheri M. Barry Memorial Highway. Throughout her life, Barry was always known for serving others.

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -Former Meridian Mayor Cheri Barry was honored as a segment of Highway 39 was named after her. House Bill 1681 was enacted earlier this year, designating one mile of Highway 39 as the Cheri M. Barry Memorial Parkway. It starts at North Hills Street and extends one mile south. Friends and family gathered Tuesday at first presbyterian church in Meridian on what would have been Rick and Cheri’s 47th wedding anniversary for the unveiling of the highway marker.

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -State Senator Jenifer Branning of Philadelphia paid a visit to the Queen City Tuesday, stopping in on patrons having lunch at Jeans. Branning is in her third term as Senator of District 18, serving the 58,000 people of Neshoba, Leake and Winston Counties. She’s also running in the non-partisan November election for the Central District seat on the Mississippi Supreme Court and says she’s poised for the job. “I feel a calling,” said Branning.
Stuff the Bus Campaign Makes Stop Number One in Lauderdale County

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -The United Way of East Mississippi’s Annual Stuff the Bus Campaign kicked off Thursday in Lauderdale County. Area residents got a chance to bring school supplies, clothes and cash to Raising Canes, Walmart on Highway 19 North and Bonita Lakes Walmart. All of the items collected will be distributed to area children before the start of the school year. “The United Way contacted us and asked if we’d like to be involved,” said Morgan Price of Raising Cane’s. “We said yes.
