    MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -Sovereignty edged favorite Journalism to win the 151st Kentucky Derby. Sovereignty overcame a muddy racetrack before over 151,000 horse racing enthusiasts from around the globe at Churchill Downs in Louisville. The winning horse was ridden by Junior Alvarado. The Derby has always been run on the first Saturday of May since the first race in 1875. All this year’s horses are descendants of the greatest racehorse ever in Secretariat.

The project is designed to make the campus safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for students, staff and community. The new sidewalk winds around the entire MCC campus and features seating areas and updated lighting for evening use.
