Mississippi State continued to rebuild its roster through the transfer portal Thursday, securing a commitment from former Arizona State wing Amier Ali. Ali mostly played off the bench in his freshman season with the Sun Devils, averaging 5.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. He was a volume shooter who was not afraid to fire away from 3-point range, finishing 29-for-89 (32.6 percent) from behind the arc.

While many schools are canceling or modifying their spring football games this year, Mississippi State is keeping the tradition alive, and Bulldogs fans will be able to see their team compete in an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium. The game will start at noon and is scheduled to last just one hour with a standard scoring system.

Head coach Chris Hooshyar’s second season at Mississippi State came to an end Wednesday night as the Bulldogs lost 4-2 to South Carolina in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament at Auburn. No. 16 seed MSU dropped the doubles point despite a 6-4 victory at No. 2 from senior Alessia Tagliente and freshman Emma Cohen. Freshman Gianna Oboniye and sophomore Athina Pitta lost 6-4 at No. 1, and sophomores Jayna Clemens and Chiara Di Genova fell in a tiebreak at No. 3.

Mississippi State picked up its second transfer portal commitment Monday, adding guard Trayanna Crisp from North Carolina. Crisp is from Goodyear, Arizona and played two years at Arizona State before spending the 2024-25 season with the Tar Heels. As a Sun Devil, Crisp made 35 starts in her 59 appearances, averaging 12.1 points per game as a sophomore.

On the final day of the regular season Sunday, former Mississippi State star post player Tolu Smith made his NBA debut for the Detroit Pistons, scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds in 22 minutes of an overtime loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Smith was an excellent player for the Pistons’ NBA G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, for most of the year.

Mississippi State extended its winning streak to seven straight matches to close out the regular season, defeating Ole Miss 5-2 and Alabama 4-3 on the road to finish in second place in the Southeastern Conference standings. On Friday evening in Oxford, the No. 11 Bulldogs lost the first doubles match but rallied to take the opening point after the No. 2 pairing of freshman Niccolo Baroni and junior Mario Martinez Serrano was defeated.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Throughout its rough start to Southeastern Conference play, Mississippi State struggled to pull out close games that were decided by the bullpens in the late innings. That made Sunday’s 4-2 victory at No. 12 Alabama, which clinched the Bulldogs’ second straight series win, all the more important. The trio of Karson Ligon, Chase Hungate and Nate Williams held the Crimson Tide without an earned run, and MSU scored all of its runs on three homers.
