But what do you think the Irish language makes of us? Is it not possible, likely even, that given the chance to speak for itself, it might express dismay about how it’s been treated in recent years — not just by some of those who appear to want it written off into history, but also by a fair few of those who claim to love it and want it to prosper.

As someone who doesn’t believe in God (atheist) and doesn’t believe in chicken consumption (vegetarian), when it comes to this week’s row over whether or not the new KFC ad campaign is blasphemous, I have, as they say, no skin in the game — crispy coated in the Colonel’s flavoursome spice mix or otherwise.

It’s not every day you get to meet a king — so it’s no wonder that in Belfast this week, Charles and Camilla looked thrilled to meet the undisputed King of the Cathedral Quarter, Willie Jack. The sun shone, there was music in the air, familiar faces of local stalwarts, some liquid refreshment and Commercial Court, with its quirky wall art, its flower baskets and painted benches, looking its absolute best.
