    Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has issued a state of emergency for 37 Alabama counties ahead of this week’s winter weather. She’s encouraging Alabamians to make needed preparations ahead of the weather system, and avoid traveling in impacted areas unless necessary. The state of emergency went into effect Thursday afternoon and will remain in effect for the duration of the weather event.

    Disturbing details are being released about the final days of missing Fayette County baby’s life. The mother is charged in his death, and court documents show investigators believe she hid Kahleb Collins’ body earlier this year and helped dispose of it. Kahleb was discovered missing after a wreck on Dec. 8 that killed his 2-year-old sister and his father. Kahleb’s mother, 22-year-old Wendy Pamela Bailey, was also in the vehicle and seriously injured.

    Gov. Kay Ivey welcomed the latest class of correctional officers to the Governors Mansion Thursday. It’s the largest graduating class of her tenure. She offered her support and congratulations to the 96 graduates. The trainees completed ten weeks of training to obtain Alabama Peace Officers’ Standard and Training Commission certification. And the officers officially graduated Friday from the Alabama Criminal Justice Training Center in Selma.

    Now that Thanksgiving is over, several Christmas events are happening in West Alabama over the next few weeks. Two events scheduled for Tuesday night. The city of Northport will host its Dickens Downtown Victorian-themed Christmas celebration from 5 to 8:30 p.m.And in Pickens County, the city of Reform will host its Sounds of Christmas parade Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
