LAKEVIEW, Ore. -- Fire season is set to start for another part of Southern Oregon at the end of this week. South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP) announced Tuesday that the 2025 fire season for Klamath and Lake counties will begin on Friday, June 6 at 12:01 a.m. The fire danger level will be 'moderate,' meaning the number of fire starts is generally low -- but winds can cause fires in open cured grasslands can spread quickly.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- Three train cars derailed in Klamath Falls at the Anderson and Altamont rail yard early Monday morning. According to the Klamath County Sheriff's Office, the remote engine of a BNSF train derailed around 3:30 a.m., overturning onto its side. The second train car also derailed and overturned, and the third car derailed but stayed upright. KCSO said neither tank car was breached, and only a small amount of diesel and hydraulic fluid leaked from the engine.

JACKSONVILLE, Ore. -- The Applegate Fire District (AFD) is asking for community support after a brain aneurysm took the life of the son of one of its volunteer firefighters. AFD announced Saturday, May 31 that Jayden, the 15-year-old son of volunteer firefighter and EMT Aisha Mayers, suffered a brain aneurysm the night before. After doctors determined Jayden had no brain activity, the Mayers family decided to donate Jayden's organs, keeping him on ventilators.

ASHLAND, Ore. -- A grass fire near Eagle Mill Rd in Ashland has been contained, according to the city. Crews with Jackson County Fire District #5, the Oregon Department of Forestry and local police departments responded to the fire, which is being held at 1/2 acre. The city says clean up is underway, and there is no threat to the community. Drivers are being asked to avoid the north end of Oak St and Eagle Mill Rd.
