MEDFORD, ORE. — Don’t forget to keep your pets in mind this 4th of July. The Southern Oregon Humane Society said holidays that involve fireworks can be a stressful time for our four-legged friends. The animal shelter said the days after the 4th of July and New Year’s Eve are always busy for them with multiple calls about pets missing or found. To ensure your pet’s safety and comfort, keep them indoors if possible.

Cowhorn Vineyard and Garden in Jacksonville is on the intersection of biodiversity and regeneration. Since 2005, the 117-acre vineyard has embraced the surrounding ecosystem and how each element interacts, rather than rely on chemicals and harsh fertilizers. “What that really does is provide us with the best fruit possible,” said Wine Maker Vince Vidrine.
AAA expects high travel activity this spring break

OREGON — If you’re getting ready to travel for spring break, expect some company. According to AAA Oregon, the top destination in the Beaver state is Bend. Some of the other top regional destinations for spring break include Portland, Seattle, Eugene and Redding. The agency said they’re also seeing a 28% increase in cruise bookings compared to this time last year. Oregonians are getting out of town, and some are even getting out of the country.
Crunch Fitness coming to Medford this spring

MEDFORD, OR. — There’s a new gym coming to Medford. ‘Crunch Fitness’ announced late last week that a brand-new, 43,000-square-foot facility is coming to the Bear Creek Center on Biddle Road. That’s the plaza with ‘Big Lots’ and a ‘Bi-Mart,’ where the old ‘TJ-Maxx’ used to be. The director of new clubs said Medford has been a target for a while, and construction will start this spring.

MEDFORD, OREGON — Prices at the pump are starting to climb in most states. Oregon, however, is trending in the other direction. According to Triple-A, the national average this week sits at $3.15 a gallon. Oregon’s average dipped by 2 cents, now at $3.60. In fact, all counties in Oregon have averages below $4 a gallon, except curry county at $4.24. Triple-A said gas prices often start to rise this time of year, so it recommends enjoying these number now while they’re still around.
Portland Thorns FC landed new midfielder from overseas

PORTLAND, OREGON. — The Portland Thorns have a new midfielder. According to a press release from the club, the Thorns have acquired Canadian midfielder Jessie Fleming via transfer from European club Chelsea FC. When she was 15, Fleming became the second youngest player to debut for the Canadian women’s national team back in 2013. In college, Fleming went to UCLA and was a 3-time all-American. Fleming said she’s excited to play alongside fellow Canadian teammates and to be a bit closer to family.
OIT announces partnership for NIL deals

KLAMATH COUNTY, OR — Oregon Tech is announcing a new partnership to help student-athletes secure NIL deals. The partnership is with Opendorse, a company that helps athletes nationwide maximize their business opportunities. The company will help OIT launch the athletic department’s NIL marketplace. Oregon Tech is the first school in the Cascade Conference to offer this platform to its student-athletes.

ROGUE VALLEY, OR — Monday is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day and there are celebrations throughout our area. ‘The Dr Martin Luther King Jr Holiday Celebration’ is next Monday, January 15. This is the first year it will be back at the Historic Ashland Armory, its normal location, since the pandemic. The event is from 12-1:30 pm, free and open to the public.
