Even as a baby, Claire Hutin was already a fan of Roquefort, the tangy, fragrant sheep's milk cheese. "Her palate has always been something to behold," her sister Stephanie Hutin recalls. Growing up in Serbia, Pedja Kovačević had never heard of someone starting their own record label. He only knew about big production houses and a few smaller German and Belgian labels. When artists Naomi Fisher and Hernan Bas launched their art space Bas Fisher Invitational (BFI) 20 years ago, opportunities for artists were scarce in gritty Miami. Art Basel had only recently descended on our shores, and most of the well-heeled folks clopping around Miami Beach were Versace's celebrity buddies and waify teen models, not art buyers and gallerists. But like a baby palm tree, BFI put down roots in the sand to grow an artist-led scene.

Years back, Rick Diaz found Zelda and Jackie in a dumpster outside his apartment. He took them home with him, and they became his daughters. They're cats, by the way. And as you do with your cats, he sings to them constantly.
