The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said the number-of-out of school children at primary school level in Nigeria has reached 10.2 million with 16 percent from the North West. The Chief of UNICEF Field Office Kano, Rahama Farah, disclosed this yesterday while commemorating the 2025 International Day of Education (IDE) in Kano. He said based on the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 2021) report, 16 percent of this number are from Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states.

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has launched the second phase of the women empowerment initiative under the Livestock Fattening Programme of the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP). In a statement on Tuesday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, noted that the beneficiaries were drawn from the state’s 44 Local Government Areas to promote self-reliance and combat poverty.

A set of 390 Nigerian migrants stranded in Niamey, Niger Republic have been repatriated back to the country. The returnees comprising 387adult males, two adult females, and one infant boy arrived at the Nigeria Immigration Training school, Kano at about 1:05a.m on Tuesday. LEADERSHIP had reported that in December 2024, a set of 702 stranded Nigerian were returned back to the country from Niger Republic.
