It is difficult to say what the most shocking thing was about the murder of Canberra man Glenn Walewicz in 2021. There is the fact a man answered a knock at his door and was shot dead by a complete stranger. It was also a case of mistaken identity in an attempted home invasion that went horribly wrong. Or there is the fact that one of the three people at Mr Walewicz's door was only 12 years old.

The ACT Supreme Court has awarded a woman more than a quarter of a million dollars in damages after she fell down stairs leaving a Braddon restaurant in 2019. The woman, now 54, alleged the operators of Zaab, a southeast Asian restaurant on Lonsdale Street, had been negligent by failing to repair the uneven surface of a set of stairs used to enter and exit the premises. She told the Supreme Court she arrived at the restaurant around 6pm, when it was still daylight.

When Olga Rogacheva's two-year-old daughter Lily needed her tonsils and adenoids removed, she was told the wait to have the operation through the public system could be up to 10 years. The news devastated Ms Rogacheva, who said she felt the public health system was failing her family. "When we needed it the most we couldn't get access to it," she said.
