Central Florida has been hot, dry, and windy, creating the perfect storm for fires to spread quickly. As of Thursday afternoon, Osceola County has not had to issue any burn bans or red flag warnings, but that does not mean the area is immune to wildfires. In mid April, just east of St. Cloud the Steerview Fire burned 275 acres – and of all things to ignite, it was a balloon.

Large flames and plumes of smoke from the Steer View fire in Osceola County could be seen for miles just east of the city of St. Cloud. City officials said Friday, someone accidentally released a balloon near a high tension power line nearly a week ago sparking the fire that has since burned 275 acres. The U.S. Forrest Service has been the main agency putting out the fire which is now 100% contained. St. Cloud officials are warning the residents to be vigilant but not worried.
