There are road closures in place in the city centre after an early morning assault. Officers were called to Preston city centre at around 6am this morning (8 June) to reports of an assault. Glovers Court and part of Fishergate are closed as a result while investigation work takes place. Traffic is being diverted via Cheapside. A man has been arrested after an incident in Preston that left another man in hospital. Police were called to reports of an assault on Cheapside in Preston at around 5.51am this morning (8 June). Officers attended and a man in his 30s was taken to hospital. A number of city centre roads were closed while police investigated the incident but have since reopened.

A South Ribble-based charity is to host its annual Yellow Day at its Lostock Hall site. St Catherine’s Hospice hosts the event every year at its site to celebrate the support and kindness of its community and to offer the chance to remember loved ones who have passed away. Yellow Day will be held tomorrow (8 June) within the St Catherine’s Hospice grounds off Lostock Lane and run from 11am until 4pm.

A new train service will offer more options for Prestonians wanting to head north or south on the rail network. Lumo, which is part of FirstGroup, will offer five daily return services running from Stirling to London Euston with Preston Railway Station one of the stops. The company claims that its services are known for their affordability and efficiency, although fare prices for their new West Coast Mainline services have not yet been confirmed.

A man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a baby by dangerous driving after an incident where the car he was driving struck a pregnant mother in Bamber Bridge. Ashir Shahid, 20, of Windsor Road, Walton le Dale, also pleaded guilty to causing serious injury to the child’s mother when he appeared in the dock at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday (4 June).
