Canadian-owned fried chicken restaurant at Miller Arcade gets opening date

A new fried chicken restaurant will open in Preston next month, it has been confirmed. MB Chicken, a Canadian-owned restaurant chain, will serve chicken tenders, bone-in chicken, taters and the Big Mary sandwich from its new Miller Arcade site from Thursday, 1 May. The eateries are known as Mary Brown’s in Canada and operate around 300 restaurants. There are MB Chicken sites now open in Northern Ireland London with Preston being their fourth site in the UK.
Man, 64, leads police on chase through Preston streets before crashing at Blackpool Road

A man from Preston has been arrested after a chase through the city that ended in a crash on Blackpool Road. Police had signalled for a Toyota Yaris to stop on Pedder Street at around 7.50pm on Monday (23 April). The vehicle failed to stop and was pursued at speed through residential streets, taking what police described as ‘risky manoeuvres’ in an attempt to evade in a chase that lasted over 20 minutes.
Footage released of person police wish to speak with in connection with St James’ Church hate crime investigation

Police have released footage of a person they wish to speak with over an incident of vandalism at a church in Leyland. On Good Friday (18 April), the exterior of the St Jamesā Church in Leyland and around 40 gravestones nearby were daubed with offensive graffiti. The attack did not deter the congregation who carried on with their usual services, including a wedding on the Saturday.Ā The local community gathered to help them remove the graffiti in record time.
Car flips onto side in Penwortham crash but no serious injuries

There were no serious injuries after a crash that saw a car flip onto its side in Penwortham. Emergency services were called to Leyland Road at around 9am this morning (21 April) to reports of a crash. Police found a car on its side and Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service were also called to help make the vehicle safe and move it to the side of the road.

A claim from a Reform UK candidate that a closing care facility in Preston could be used to house asylum seekers is ‘completely unfounded and misleading speculation’, Blog Preston has been told. Luke Parker, who is Reform UK’s candidate for Preston East at the upcoming Lancashire County Council elections, posted to Facebook yesterday (18 April) that he had ‘unconfirmed reports’ the closing Finney House ‘may soon be repurposed to house asylum seekers’ adding that it raised serious questions.
Body found in search for missing Brian Fletcher

A body has been found in the search for missing man Brian Fletcher, police have said. Brian Fletcher, 80, had been missing since Saturday, 22 March, after he travelled from his home in Bury to Tockholes. Police said he visited the area regularly and was a keen bird watcher. A multi-agency search had taken place across several weeks to find Brian, although police confirmed last week they had stood down search efforts.
Police cordon in place at Rivington and explosive disposal teams on their way

Officers were called after two ‘grenade type devices’ were found at the side of Rivington reservoir just before 8am today (19 April). Community comes together to start cleaning of St James Church in Leyland after hate crime

A local councillor has spoken of his pride after a community came together to begin work to clean a defaced church. Police confirmed yesterday (18 April) that they received reports of vandalism at St James Church on Slater Lane in Leyland and that they were treating the incident as a hate crime. Sexually-explicit images, along with the words ‘god is a lie’, were sprayed across the church building and over 40 gravestones.
Emergency services deal with early morning crash on M6 southbound

An overturned car on the M6 triggered a large emergency services response and a temporary closure on the southbound carriageway. Police were called to the scene of a one vehicle collision on the M6 southbound at around 2am this morning (18 April). They found that a car had flipped onto its roof between junction 32 and junction 31 on the M6 southbound.
Church Street short-stay parking set to move to nearby Church Row

A short-stay parking area in Preston city centre is to be relocated over road safety concerns. The well-used row of four free spaces – on Church Street, opposite Guild Row – offers half an hour of free parking between 8am and 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Outside of those hours – and from 6.30pm on Sundays – it operates as a taxi rank.
