COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Southern Oregon University (SOU) Raiders' softball team is once again NAIA softball World Series champions. The Raiders’ path to the Red Banner was anything but easy throughout the tournament. After losing their first game on day one of the double-elimination tournament, a gauntlet stood between SOU and a Red Banner. They had to win five games in a row to make it to the championship and then beat the last remaining team twice.

The Hunter Communications Amateur Athletes of the week have led the Cascade Christian Challengers baseball team to a 21-6 record. Meet Grady Sickler and CJ Bonner. Sickler and Bonner have put on an absolute show at the plate this year. When asked about the Challenger’s success, they credit all their teammates before themselves. “ It all comes back to the team idea,” Bonner said. “Everybody wants the same thing here.” When NewsWatch 12 talked with the duo they never mentioned their stats.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Hunter Communications Amateur Athlete of the Week just earned the Cascade Conference Co-Pitcher of the year award for Oregon Tech. Meet Tim Williams. For Williams, pitching is a mental battle to keep control of the game on the field. It’s a battle that has come with many wins and losses throughout his career. One example of this was during Tech’s game against Dickinson State. Up 2-0 in the top of the 3rd, Williams walked one batter then gave up a home run after.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. – The Hunter Communications Amateur Athlete of the Week just set two personal records in the shot put and discus events in the same day. Meet Grady Johnson. Johnson is getting ready to compete for a state title in both events, but at one point, didn’t know how good he could be. He started doing both events late in his freshman year at Hidden Valley High School. During his sophomore year, he realized he could compete against the best.

The Hunter Communications Amateur Athlete of the Week was just named to the Cascade Conference first team for Softball. Meet Kacie Schmidt. Schmidt, an All-American last season for the Oregon Tech Owls, continued her dominance in the circle this year. She helped them clinch a share of the regular season title and the host site for the conference tournament four years in a row. Despite the stats and accolades to her name over her time at Oregon Tech, she’s remained humble.
