ROCK HALL — During a closed session Monday, the Kent County Board of Education voted 4-1 to accept a resolution adopting the ethics panel opinion and recommendation that board member Frank Rhodes acted “inappropriately” in two instances. The report was read into the record by board President Joe Goetz during open session. The ethics complaint was filed against Rhodes April 11. The complaint alleged three violations of the board’s ethics policy.

ROCK HALL — The much-discussed Ordinance No. 2023-06 passed, and the town here will see a 10% increase in water and sewer rates in fiscal year 2024. During its regular business meeting Aug. 10, the council voted 4-1 to approve the rate increase. Councilman Tim Edwards cast the lone dissenting vote.

CHESTERTOWN - The rain held out, but only just, for the "welcome home" reception for author and illustrator duo Matthew Swanson, Robbi Behr, their four kids - Alden, Kato, Augie and Jasper - and two dogs - Dumbles and Goji. The family - minus Goji, who was picked up on the trip - set off for the Busload of Books tour from Chestertown Aug. 30, 2022. They drove back into Chestertown Tuesday, Aug. 15, and dozens of friends and family awaited their arrival, holding handmade signs.

In the coming weeks, speed cameras will be installed on State Route 20 as part of a traffic study. That study is being conducted by RedSpeed International, a company using cameras to enforce speed limits.

Kent County Public Schools Superintendent Karen Couch was joined by Larry Levato and John Pryor to give the presentation. Levato and Pryor are principal and project architect, respectively, with Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates, the group that completed the feasibility study.

During public participation, several attendees spoke about high water bills this quarter, testing water meters for accuracy, the water meter upgrade project and the quality of water.
