GEORGETOWN, Del. — Delaware's teachers union is calling on the Sussex County Council to require developers to contribute toward the cost of new school construction. The Delaware State Education Association says unchecked residential growth has overwhelmed schools in the Cape Henlopen, Indian River and Milford school districts. They argue that developers, who they say profit from large housing projects, should be responsible for part of the cost associated with expanding and building new schools.

OCEAN CITY, Md. — Rock fans heading to the inaugural Boardwalk Rock Festival next weekend are in for a surprise lineup shake-up: Rob Zombie has been added to the bill after Alice in Chains dropped out due to health concerns involving a band member. Festival organizers announced that Rob Zombie will take the stage Saturday at 6:50 p.m. at the Ocean City Inlet, stepping in after Alice in Chains canceled all upcoming performances.

DELAWARE. —Thousands of baby birds rescued from a misdirected shipment will be up for adoption soon, according to the Delaware Department of Agriculture. The Department of Agriculture says it has learned the 10,000 birds found in a Sussex County Post Office originated from Freedom Ranger Hatchery in Pennsylvania. The birds had been shipped on April 29 and were intended for various locations across the country—including as far as Spokane, Washington.

DOVER, Del. — Advocates seeking to permanently end the death penalty in Delaware will gather at Legislative Hall on Tuesday, May 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., to urge lawmakers to support House Bill 35 — a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban capital punishment in the state once and for all. Delaware’s death penalty was struck down by the State Supreme Court in 2016 for being unconstitutional.
