The concern is being met with a campaign to raise awareness for testing and treating the sexually transmitted infection. “The thing about syphilis is, even though it had been around for centuries, it actually dropped dramatically in the 1940s and 50s when penicillin came on the market,” explained Dr. Susan Girois, the Health Director for the Norfolk Department of Public Health.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — Elizabeth City State University student Sara Hill is not only a student-athlete, but is also in the Army Reserves. After finishing up homework ahead of finals, she went to join her friends at ECSU’s final night of ‘Viking Fest,’ but the fun evening quickly turned frightening though when gunshots started flying through the crowd after midnight Sunday. “He shot off five or six semi’s and then went full auto in the crowd,” she said.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — Campus officials with Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) said the campus was on lockdown Sunday morning following a shooting on the campus quad. In a Facebook post, the officials said the incident happened on-campus at 12:30 a.m. Officials sent an email out to students and faculty alerting them of the shooting 15 minutes after the incident. The campus then went on lockdown two hours after the email was sent.
