    Convicted ex-lawyer Tom Girardi was hospitalized Wednesday for “liver dysfunction,” his attorneys said in an emergency filing stating the 85-year-old will miss a hearing scheduled Thursday over whether he’s medically fit to serve prison time. They asked Judge Josephine L. Staton in the US District Court for the Central District of California to postpone the hearing where results of Girardi’s weeks-long evaluation period in a North Carolina prison hospital will be discussed.

    The February administration of California’s new Bar Exam, that was supposed to save the cash-strapped Bar about $3.8 million annually, instead is expected to cost Bar $5.6 million, the State Bar’s executive director Leah Wilson told state lawmakers Tuesday. The estimate accounts for $3 million in fee waivers, around $2 million to book testing sites, and around $620,000 to return to the Multistate Bar Exam in July, said Wilson, who will step down after her term ends in July.
