One of the Rochester area’s largest employers, Paychex, has finalized a deal to acquire smaller Cincinnati-based rival Paycor for $4.1 billion, according to corporate disclosures. Founded in 1971 by Irondequoit native Tom Golisano with an initial investment of $3,000, Paychex made the announcement April 14.

PacSun has opened in a newly remodeled 5,001-square-foot space in the JCPenney wing at Eastview Mall, mall owner Wilmorite announced Thursday. Short for Pacific Sunwear, PacSun sells jeans, cargo pants, graphic tees, swimwear and other apparel for teenagers and young adults by such brands as Levi's, Formula 1 Reebok, Brandy Melville and Von Dutch, among others. Originally, PacSun opened in 1998 in Eastview’s Main Court and closed in 2012.

It’s been advertised since last summer with window signs, but work is finally underway on a new Starbucks location downtown. On April 9, the city of Rochester issued a building permit allowing changes to be made to a ground-floor space in the Five Star Bank building, 100 Chestnut St., for use as a sit-down restaurant (Starbucks) and to create an outdoor seating area, a city spokesperson said via email.

Dick’s Sporting Goods will exit Henrietta’s Marketplace Mall Monday, April 28, and open in its new location, 790 Jefferson Road in Market Square Plaza, Tuesday, April 29, a store manager said. A soft opening period will follow until Friday, May 9, when an official grand opening will be held, she said. A moving sale is underway at the Marketplace store. All cold weather accessories are 50% off.

Terphane, which makes polyester films used to package food and other products, is shutting down its facility in Bloomfield, Ontario County, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN). Forty-nine people will lose their jobs. The closure will begin June 30 and end Oct. 31, the notice states. Relocation of the business is listed as the reason.

After beating Justin Rose in a playoff at Augusta National Golf Club, he fell to his knees on the green and began to sob. With the win, the 35-year-old from Northern Ireland became the sixth golfer to win the career Grand Slam and the first since Tiger Woods capped off the achievement in 2000.

Eastview Mall in Victor has signed four new tenants, mall owner Wilmorite announced Friday. ∎ Capital One Café, a full-service coffee bar, will open its first location in the Northeast in a 3,758-square-foot spot outside Dick’s House of Sport. Customers don’t need a Capitol One account to patronize the business. ∎ Fries Fries Fries, which serves French fries, poutine and hot dogs, will open in the food court between Famous Wok and Pita Chik.
Dave’s Hot Chicken sets opening timeline for Irondequoit location

Dave’s Hot Chicken has revealed a timeframe for the opening of its Irondequoit restaurant. The location at 1267 East Ridge Road (formerly Rachel’s Mediterranean Grill) is looking at late April or early May at the latest, a spokesperson said. A grand opening date of April 18 listed on the company’s website is incorrect. The Los Angeles-based fast-casual chain opened its first location here in November 2024 at 942 Jefferson Road, Henrietta.
