PETERSBURG − The February frenzy of storms continues Wednesday with a snowfall that forecasters predict will be the largest of the season. The National Weather Service office in Wakefield has downgraded the accumulation expectations, but the storm still is expected to be significant. What began as 6-12 inches of snow extending from the Tri-City area down into Tidewater and northeastern North Carolina is now 5-10 inches, with the higher levels the closer you get to the coast.

PETERSBURG − Snow has settled in around the area, and forecasters say we should expect moderate to heavy precipitation as Wednesday wears on. "This area is expected to see the worst conditions as we head into the evening commute," the National Weather Service office in Wakefield said Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter. "There is the potential for 1"/hr rates."Snow falling at the rate of an inch per hour is considered by forecasters to be in the moderate to heavy range.
