    I am writing to express my concerns regarding the actions of Marco Island Councilor Gray. Since being sworn in this past November, Councilor Gray has demonstrated a pattern of advocating for actions that appear to be in direct conflict with Florida law. For example, during discussions on beachfront vegetation trimming, Gray suggested that the council “look the other way,” effectively encouraging the disregard of state regulations.

    At the latest Marco Island City Council meeting Councilor Brechnitz did not know where he was. In fact, he gave an employee a commendation from the City of Decatur?!? This was live and also on the public record on video for all to see. Time to step down Councilor Brechnitz. This is unacceptable and embarrassing. As the meeting proceeded, Councilor Brechnitz repeatedly forgot other councilors names and called them by the wrong names. He lost track of votes and vote counts on numerous occasions.

    The City Council’s recent attempts to appoint a seventh councilor have left many Marco Island residents frustrated and disappointed. I was one of more than 25 applicants for the seat left vacant by Councilor Greg Folley. Over weeks of interviews and deliberations, the Council narrowed the field to two, including me. Yet, the Council deadlocked in a 3-3 vote.

As full-time residents and property owners on Marco Island, we enjoy frequenting many of the businesses on Marco.
