NEBRASKA (KCAU) — The Dixon County Sheriff’s Office said someone has been arrested after they asked for help identifying a vehicle suspected to be involved in an attempted abduction. On Tuesday night, authorities said they were searching for a vehicle concerning an attempted abduction of a teenage boy in Ponca. On Wednesday morning, the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office said they located the vehicle in question in rural Ponca.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — St. Luke’s College is searching for a new president. Dr. Kendra Ericson has been selected to be president of the Western Dakota Technical College in Rapid City, after the passing of their previous president in September. According to a statement from the specialist of marketing communications at UnityPoint Health in Sioux City, Danielle Funderman, UnityPoint is actively working aon n interim leadership plan. She said the hospital will provide more details soon.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Independence Day is expected to be the summer’s busiest travel day. AAA said a record 72 million Americans are expected to travel for the fourth, an increase of 1.7 million people compared to last year. The number of flyers is expected to increase by more than 1% over last year’s record rush, but most folks will still be hitting the roads. More than 61 million people are expected to drive to their July Fourth destination.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Camp High Hopes will soon be adding new recreational programming for Youth campers. The adaptive camp for children of all abilities recently received a grant from Variety – The Children’s Charity of Iowa. Camp leaders say they plan to purchase a Z-tag game and a foam machine with the funding, noting the equipment will help kids connect with peers regardless of physical ability while also fostering friendships.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — The Food Bank of Siouxland announced its total from the Food Festival. The goal was to raise $40k. Nearly $52k was raised at the 3rd Annual Siouxland Food Festival. The Food Bank’s release said more than 500 people participated in the event. All proceeds from the event will go towards purchasing food for the Food Bank and its agencies. ELK POINT, S.D. (KCAU) — The long-awaited trial of a man accused of a Dakota Dunes murder is set to begin on June 16 at the Union County Courthouse in Elk Point. Jury members are now seated for the trial of Alfredo Castellanos-Rosales. He is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with the April 2023 death of Jordan Beardshear. IOWA (KCAU) — The Iowa Democratic Party has been hit by another blow from the party’s national committee. The Des Moines Register reports that Iowa’s only representative on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) rules committee has been removed. Lifelong Iowan Scott Brennan had served on the panel, but learned earlier this week he was out. The move by the DNC comes a year after the party removed Iowa as one of the nation’s first democratic nominating states for the presidential election.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The 6th annual “Luke Day” fundraiser encouraged folks to drop off a donation of pet food, cleaning supplies, or cash at the Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue Center. In exchange, each participant received a free pulled pork sandwich meal. SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — South Sioux City was the host to dozens of law enforcement officers from across Nebraska for the Fraternal Order of Police State Conference. The event lets officers connect with others and learn about recent legislation. Several speakers spoke on how the murder of George Floyd in 2020 caused a shift in attitudes towards police, but that shift was less than negative in Nebraska.
