SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — On Friday, the City of Sioux City invited residents, businesses, schools, and community groups to the annual Sioux City Litter Dash. The litter cleanup event aims to help beautify the Siouxland community and reduce the impact of litter on the environment. Around 600 volunteers were split into different sections of Sioux City to pick up as much litter as they could while trying to reach a goal of collecting four to five tons.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A nationally recognized sub sandwich shop opened its doors in Sioux City on Wednesday. The first Jersey Mike’s Subs location in the city held a grand opening at 3070 Floyd Boulevard. Business began at 10 a.m., and there was a long line of customers. One Sioux City resident said people may have to wait a bit to get a sub sandwich. “Oh man, I’m really excited to get in there,” resident Gavin Montanez said.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — After a two week pause, the demolition of 625 Douglas Street is underway again with hopes of saving the front of the facade. Herbert Construction will pick up where they left off after the project had been put on pause to investigate the possibility of saving part of 615 Douglas Street. Demo at 615 Douglas Street hasn’t started and remains on hold until engineers can determine if the building is structurally sound enough to save.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Rental assistance is again available through the Iowa Rent Reimbursement Program. Locally, the Community Action Agency of Siouxland processes those requests, offering rent reimbursement for low-income, elderly or disabled individuals who rent in the state of Iowa. Workers at the agency work with residents who are eligible for the program and assist with applications.

OKOBOJI, Iowa (KCAU) — What started in 1981 as a small broomball tournament has turned into one of the biggest weekends of the year in the Iowa Great Lakes region. This year’s University of Okoboji Winter Games are underway. A chili cook-off got things heated up Friday night, with broomball, a polar plunge and a 5k run just a few of the events planned for the weekend.
