SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — After a weekend with wildfire smoke around the area and a break from severe weather for a bit, severe chances return to Siouxland Monday afternoon and evening. There is a slight risk (level 2/5) of severe weather for areas generally near or west of US-75 with areas to the east under a marginal risk (level 1/5) of severe weather. The slight risk generally includes areas like Sheldon, Orange City, Le Mars, Sioux City, Onawa, and Tekamah and to the west.

CHEROKEE, Iowa (KCAU) — It may be hard to believe, but the Cherokee Rodeo is back once again. Cherokee’s annual three-day rodeo event has returned for another year, and KCAU 9 Chief Meteorologist Victor Perez made another trip out to the rodeo to get in on the festivities. During his time at the rodeo, Victor rounded up some rodeo fans to take a crack at predicting what the weather is going to look like. SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — (Updated 5/19/25 @ 7:33 PM) –The National Weather Service in Omaha has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for…South central Monona County in west central Iowa…Northwestern Harrison County in southwestern Iowa & Southeastern Burt County in east central Nebraska…Until 800 PM CDT. At 726 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles southwest of Little Sioux, or 5 miles east of Tekamah, moving northeast at 20 mph. 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail are possible.

ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — People from all around gathered in Orange City Thursday to experience Dutch culture and take a look at this year’s tulip bloom. KCAU 9 Chief Meteorologist Victor Perez was also at the 2025 Tulip Festival to get a look at the flowers himself. While attending the festival, Victor asked a few attendees what they thought the weather might be looking like during the festival weekend. You can check out those predictions in the video above.

That front is moseying across the planes with some severe storms reported in Central Nebraska already and a Severe Thunderstorm watch in central portions of the state of Nebraska. After dark is when we start to see chances of severe weather start to arrive. The Storm Prediction Center has increased our chances of severe weather.
