For this informal survey conducted recently on campus, most students said they’d compare online and in-person shopping sales and deals and assess their best strategies depending on the products, stores and more.

But the fare and owner may be familiar to Claremonters, as its owner, Joyce Patra, ran the former Claremont favorite 50-Fifty Asian Fusion. The Upland restaurant has a minimalist-yet-romantic feel, with exposed-stone walls. Owner and head chef Patra is clearly beloved by the customers who followed her from 50-Fifty.

Margaret ContrerasLV Life EditorThe 76th annual Pilgrim Place festival was held Saturday and Sunday at the Pilgrim Place neighborhood in Claremont. The event, an annual fundraiser for the senior living community, featured booths with food, art, clothing, fair rides and more. “I graduated from Pomona College in 1977,” said volunteer Debi Kuperberg. “I remember coming here every year with my family.”Vendors sold such items as antique jewelry and glass dishes.

The festival took place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday in the Claremont Village. The annual arts and crafts festival closed the streets for the vendors and guests. The beer, cider and wine garden was located in front of Shelton Park. People who wanted to taste the drinks were given a wristband once they verified their identification.

Margaret ContrerasLV Life Editor The Noche Latina was in full swing Sept. 27 on the Citrus Lawn. The Campus Activities Board held the event in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 5 to Oct. 15. Music played by the live band playing banda music, Conjunto Caspian, could be heard throughout campus. Noche Latina event coordinator and sophomore business major Emily Melkonyan brought the first banda ever to a CAB event.
