KINGSTON — Kingston locals know Tom Sit as the affable owner of Eng’s Chinese Restaurant, a Broadway staple he has run for nearly half a century. They might be surprised to know the 81-year-old's full history — as a political refugee who made a daring escape from China; a striver who arrived in New York City with few possessions but a dedication to support his family back home; a businessman who reconnected with a schoolmate and raised a family in a new world along the Hudson.

The event led to the arrest of former Mayor Jason West and brought national attention. Since then, New Paltz has led the region in celebrating Pride month with the annual Hudson Valley Pride March and Festival in June, now in its 21st year.
