The National Weather Service in Louisville anticipates severe weather is possible May 20 throughout Kentucky, with the greatest chance for significant tornadoes in southwestern part of the state. A wave of storms could move through most of the state by the evening, beginning in west Kentucky.

Another round of severe weather is possible in Kentucky during the afternoon and evening hours May 20, and communities impacted by tornadoes just days ago may be hit with more strong storms. Much of southern Kentucky is considered by the National Weather Service to be at the highest risk, greater than 10%, for a "significant" tornado, defined as an EF-2 tornado or greater. The eastern edge of a border drawn by the weather service is near London, which saw heavy storm damage overnight May 16.

Louisville is at risk of seeing severe storms, including tornadoes and large hail May 16 as a strong system is set to approach the metro area, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville. The weather service's Storm Prediction Center has issued a moderate risk for severe storms, the fourth-highest of five risk levels. The moderate risk area includes the western half of Kentucky and much of southern Indiana.
