Jesús Molina and his wife, Lili Molina, still remember the prayer they made to God when the Venezuelan couple moved to the U.S. eight years ago. “God, if you take me from my country … we want to serve the people, the community,” Jesús Molina said, recalling his message. Every Thursday night for 30 years, the Near Southside church has opened its doors to people in need of a warm meal, fellowship and worship. The weekly breaking of bread over tablecloth-lined tables and ceramic dishes aims to create a place of welcome and belonging between congregants, people experiencing homelessness and volunteers.

When Leanne Jamieson discovered that more than 1,700 women were driving from Fort Worth ZIP codes to receive medical care at Prestonwood Pregnancy Centers in Dallas, she knew it was time to start thinking about expanding the nonprofit westward. The pregnancy center started as a ministry of Prestonwood Baptist Church in 1991 through Jack Graham, senior pastor of the church.
