Boy Scouts honor Dr. Bob Jackson

MURRAY - The Boy Scouts of America Lincoln Heritage Council held its annual luncheon fundraiser yesterday at First United Methodist Church and Dr. Bob Jackson was presented the 2025 Distinguished Citizen Award. Jackson serves as the 14th President of Murray State University and is retiring from that position at the end of June. Not only is he a proud Murray State University alumnus, he has held various leadership roles at the university including President of the MSU Foundation.

MURRAY - The Murray independent School Board approved a 5% increase in salaries across the board for the 2025-26 school year at Thursday night’s monthly meeting. “This is a minimum increase, some could be more,” said Coy Samons, MISD superintendent.

MURRAY - The Murray-Calloway County Public Library Board of Trustees met Tuesday in regular session. New trustee Kaeleigh Morris attended her first board meeting. She was appointed to replace the unexpired term of the late Riley Ramsey. The minutes of the previous month’s board were approved and the treasurer’s report was presented by business manager Renee Lax. The accounts show $2.16 in the construction account and that account will now be closed as all construction fees have been paid in full.

MURRAY - The Murray-Calloway County Senior Citizens Center celebrated 50 years on Friday and welcomed back two former directors of the center, Eric Kelleher and Mark McLemore. Dacia Barger, director, welcomed those in attendance and introduced the Murray-Calloway County Senior Citizens Board members and the two special speakers. MURRAY - In February I shared a Lifestyle story on the Rogers family, specifically, Kynlee, 10, and her dog Tennessee (called Tennee) who both have cleft lips. Tennee was adopted by the Rogers family from a rescue unit in New York who takes in puppies with cleft palates and cleft lips and fosters them until they are ready to be adopted.

The Rudolph Pickleball Complex opened Monday night to a large crowd who attended to see the newly constructed five pickleball courts and the large commons area with umbrella tables and chairs and benches scattered throughout the facility. The Murray Pickleball Association (MPA) members were thrilled to present this complex to the community as part of Murray-Calloway County Central Park.

Fred and Nancy Aldridge of Murray celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, April 19, 2025, with a surprise dinner with their family at Kenlake State Resort Park’s Garden Room. They were married April 18, 1975, at Puryear Baptist Church in Puryear, Tennessee, with the Rev. W.A. Farmer officiating. Mr. Aldridge is the son of the late Fred and Pauline Aldridge and is a truck driver. Mrs. Aldridge is the daughter of the late J.T. and Desiree Paschall and is self-employed.
