Life-affirming community gatherings, artists and concerts offer a balm after a painful week. Tallahassee loves a festival and this weekend overflows with them. LeMoyne Arts dreamed up the Chain of Parks Art Festival in 2001 to offer the community an outdoor, diverse fine art experience previously not found in the region, adopting the name of the beautiful downtown Chain of Parks in which it is held.

The pace eases up for Easter weekend. Take the kids to the city's annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 19, rest up and enjoy the glorious weather. Next weekend piles on the festival riches, with the Chain of Parks Art Festival, Wilco concert, Shell Point regatta and Thomasville Rose Festival. This weekend, get inspired when Revival lights up Monticello with a concert on Saturday. Blue Tavern continues its 3-day Jazz Weekend unfolding at the tavern and the nearby Req Room.

Word of South seems to get bigger and better each year. From the smashing Violent Femmes opening, to the rollicking closing notes of American Aquarium, from Pharaohs of Funk to P-Funk, from to New Orleans jazz to the Shindellas, the 2025 version sparkled. We come away exhausted but inspired by words of authors sharing their craft, and the conversations with friends and neighbors and the people we always see at this warm and windy playground for artists. Can't stop.

Word of South kicks off April with a bang when the Violent Femmes mix it up with the Tallahassee Symphony on Friday. Grab your sunscreen and get ready for three jam-packed days in the park celebrating over 60 musicians and authors and the books and bands you love. Check out the schedule and plot your day at wordofsouthfestival.com. The festival is not the only game around this weekend. It's also a First Friday, with artsy gallery fun at Railroad Square and around town.

The azaleas have hung on to usher in the 57th Springtime Tallahassee festival in full glory this weekend. Just add pollen, sunshine, music, a parade, arts and crafts and funnel cakes to complete the spirited tradition. There's also a Chess Festival at Kleman Plaza on Saturday and jazz with Kami Hayes Quartet at the Blue Tavern. Here's a roundup of entertaining events around Tallahassee, culled from emails, the Council on Culture & Arts online listings and elsewhere.
