Based on the Tony Awards, these prizes recognize achievement, both onstage and behind the scenes, by local high school students in musical and play productions.

National Pretzel Day is Saturday, April 26, and it will be a great day to celebrate a snack so closely tied to Lancaster County. There will be lots of places around the county to enjoy free or discounted pretzels that day. Pretzels, after all, are part of our heritage as Lancaster County residents. In 1983, Lancaster County’s U.S. congressman, Robert Walker, pushed for a holiday commemorating his favorite food — the pretzel. Gov. Ed Rendell declared April 26 National Pretzel Day in 2003.

“A Nice Indian Boy,” a rom-com film co-starring Tony Award-winning actor Jonathan Groff, has its first Lancaster theater screening scheduled in May. Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse, 112 N. Water St., Lancaster, will show the film from May 16-28. “A Nice Indian Boy,” which has a 96% “fresh” rating among 55 critics’ reviews on the website Rotten Tomatoes, features Ronks native Groff as a photographer named Jay Kurundkar who was adopted by Indian parents.

In October 1864, according to local lore, three women walked to the community cemetery in the village of Boalsburg, Centre County, and placed flowers and wreaths on the graves of two local men who had died while serving the Union Army in the Civil War. Dr. Reuben Hunter, a Boalsburg physician who had served as a military surgeon, had died of disease the month before, and Pvt. Amos Myers had been killed at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863.
