Shamima Begum‘s looked set to be confined to a Syrian detention camp after she lost her final bid to challenge the government’s removal of her British citizenship earlier this year. But following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s government, her family lawyer now says her hopes of returning to the UK are alive again. Ms Begum left the UK aged 15 with two other east London schoolgirls to travel to Syria in February 2015.

Ukraine says it has struck Russia ’s Morozovsk military airfield and fuel tanks at the Atlas plant along with oil depots in an overnight drone attack. The Morozovsk airfield houses Su-34 Fullback fighter bombers, which played a crucial role in Russia’s war on Ukraine. Kyiv said the attack on the airfield hit an ammunition depot where Russian forces stored guided aerial bombs.
