    Friends last heard from Wellington Hospital nurse Vanron Ngoun two weeks ago. In four years of nursing training, Vanron Ngoun never missed a single class. As of today, friends and family of the Wellington Hospital nurse have not heard from him for two weeks. Ngoun was travelling in Europe. He last made contact in Naples, Italy on May 27. Ngoun’s friend, Victoria University School of Health associate professor Dr Clive Aspin, said it was “highly unusual” for Ngoun not to contact friends and family.

    Another freezing night is in store for New Zealand as an icy-cold front sweeps across the country. MetService meteorologist Surprise Mhlongo said temperatures will be lowest in Wānaka and Queenstown, with both towns expecting -1C. Blenheim and Milford face 0C, while Christchurch will sit at 3C. The facility, first announced in 2018, opened this week near the Waikato town of Te Awamutu, with inmates expected to move in by the end of August.

    Forensic mental health services in the Midland region will be getting a $51 million funding boost over the next four years, Mental Health Minister Matt Doocey announced at Waikato Hospital this week. The funding will see 10 new acute inpatient beds at the Henry Rongomau Bennett facility in Hamilton, and eight new “step-down” beds for transitional care delivered by non-government organisations.

    A four-lane roading project for Hamilton’s Ruakura Inland Port and Superhub has been given the nod to proceed to a $4.1 million design stage, Transport Minister Chris Bishop announced on Wednesday. The $4.1m for the Ruakura Eastern Transport Corridor project’s design and consenting phase is cost-shared between Hamilton City Council and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
