Days after a gas explosion rocked Lexington, Missouri, crews with Liberty Utilities say they have restored natural gas service to more than 900 homes and businesses. About 1,000 more locations remain without service as utility workers continue system repairs and inspections. Liberty said additional work is needed to “further validate the integrity of the system” before full service restoration can be completed.

The City of Independence is moving forward with road and bridge repairs after voters approved a $55 million bond measure during Tuesday’s election. One of the projects getting the green light includes long-needed work on a bridge along Kentucky Avenue in the city’s northwest corner. “We have resources now to make very visible and meaningful improvements in the community,” said City Manager Zach Walker.

City leaders and public safety officials say the facility no longer meets the department’s needs and are seeking support for a proposed 1-cent sales tax to fund a new station and increased pay for first responders. Since moving into the current building, the police department has seen significant growth.
