    MICHIGAN CITY — Entering Bill Cook’s new home, visitors will encounter floors paved with century-old bricks culled from La Porte’s historic roadways; walls built from the logs of the county’s oldest standing cabin; and even blue-tinted glass melted from the sands of Michigan City’s long lost Hoosier Slide. That’s not even scratching the surface. kAm%96 3F:=5:?8 – H9:49 D9@H42D6D =62565 8=2DD H:?5@HD C64=2:>65 7C@> 49FC496D[ G:?E286 ':4E@C:2? =:89E3F=3D 2?5 6G6? E96 7C@?E 6?5 @7 2 `hcg u@C5 – 42?

    WESTVILLE — Despite a Hammond man getting arrested for the very same crime not even a month earlier, a South Bend man reportedly tried his luck attempting to land a contraband-laden drone into the Westville Correctional Facility on April 3. WESTVILLE — Flying a drone loaded with meth, fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, cell phones and more to inmates in the Westville Correctional Facility turned out to be less than a good idea for one 29-year-old Hammond man. But despite the suspect's eventual capture, La Porte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan predicted these crimes will only become a growing issue in the future. kAmtC:4 !2E:?@[ ah[ @7 w2>>@?5 92D 366?

    NEW ORLEANS — The search for a stolen iPhone, and the hunt for the suspected thief, might have been what kept one La Porte man and his friends safe when a terrorist launched an attack that claimed 14 lives in New Orleans on New Year’s Day. Filmmaker and La Porte native Stephen Ruminski, director of the documentary “The Gunness Mystery” about famed La Porte serial killer Belle Gunness, arrived in New Orleans with a couple of Chicago friends for New Year’s festivities on Dec. 30.
