An Osceola County substitute teacher has been arrested and charged with child abuse in a late April incident at an elementary school.According to the St. Cloud Police Department, Casmore Shaw, 71, is charged with child abuse – simple assault or battery. Shaw allegedly grabbed a Neptune Elementary School student by the shirt collar and threw him into a classroom wall as punishment.
Suspect in custody in Cocoa homicide investigation on Sunday

The Cocoa Police Department said one person has been taken into custody in connection with a homicide that occurred Sunday morning in the city.According to Cocoa police, officers were called out to the area of 900 Friday Road just after 11 a.m. Sunday, for a 911 call reporting that someone was being attacked.

The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a driver after a motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Lake County on Saturday. Troopers said the crash happened around 10:44 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Citrus Grove Road. They said a motorcyclist on a Yamaha motorcycle was stopped at the traffic signal facing south in the inside lane of U.S. 27 at the intersection when the light changed to green.
US Coast Guard crews rescue boaters 40 miles off Cape Canaveral

The United States Coast Guard said it rescued two boaters Saturday after their boat became disabled off Florida's Atlantic Coast.According to U.S. Coast Guard Southeast, coast guard crews were radioed for help after a sailboat became disabled approximately 40 miles off Cape Canaveral on Friday.
Silver Alert issued for missing Winter Park man

The Winter Park Police Department issued a Silver Alert for a man after he went missing Saturday afternoon.According to police, Gary Lillig, 77, was last seen on Park Avenue in Winter Park around noon. He is believed to be driving a red Jeep Grand Cherokee with Florida disabled veteran tag DV9483J. Police say Lillig is 6 feet tall and about 170 pounds with gray hair and blue eyes.Police are asking anyone who sees Lillig to call 911.
Osceola County firefighters battle brush fire near Lake Lizzie

Osceola County Fire Rescue firefighters and the Florida Forest Service are working to contain a several-hundred-acre brush fire near Lake Lizzie off U.S. Highway 192. As of 10 a.m. Saturday, Old Melbourne Highway has been closed at U.S. Highway 192 due to conditions from the brush fire. The Florida Forest Service said the brush fires are 80% contained and about 600 acres in size as of 12:45 p.m. Osceola County Fire Rescue said no structures are at risk from the fires.
Pedestrian killed in crash on Orange Blossom Trail in Osceola County

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed on Orange Blossom Trail in Osceola County overnight Saturday.According to the FHP, the crash happened shortly after midnight on Orange Blossom Trail (U.S. 17-92) north of The Oaks Boulevard. Troopers said a pedestrian was running across OBT from east to west in a crosswalk when they fell to the ground.

SpaceX is targeting a Monday night launch of a Falcon 9 rocket carrying over two dozen Starlink internet satellites to low-Earth orbit. Liftoff is set for 9:17 p.m. from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Backup opportunities are available until 11:37 p.m. and again starting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7 if needed. The launch will send 28 Starlink satellites into orbit.
