Nearly halfway through 2025, the Oklahoma County Jail is on pace to break its grim record for detainee deaths while still struggling with staffing shortages, failed inspection reports and doubts among those tasked with overseeing the facility’s day-to-day operations. Seven detainees have died at the jail this year. The most recent, Mario Latreal Mason, hanged himself at the jail May 12.

The ranks of Oklahoma City’s tax increment finance districts may be expanding soon with the addition of one in the Capitol Hill area that could go before the city council in the coming months. The city currently has 17 TIF districts within its boundaries. That total includes TIFs for downtown OKC, the Innovation District and Classen Corridor. TIFs have aided in the construction of the Omni Hotel and restoration of the Skirvin Hotel, as well as the completion of the First Americans Museum.

Perry, 73, was reelected to the District 5 seat on the Choctaw Nation Tribal Council seat in 2023 after first being elected in 2011.
