In February, Eleanor Rye received a 90-day shelter ban and in April settled under a street light near Richmond and Berryman avenues in St. Catharines. The 50-year-old quickly saw an opportunity. In less than a month, she made a name for herself among residents in the city’s Queenston neighbourhood. “I saw a mess from my tent. I was across the street and decided to start cleaning, because I’ve always worked and I was going crazy sitting in the tent all-day long,” she said.
