SULLIVAN, N.Y. — A man convicted of manslaughter and assault charges for the death of a 9-year-old girl was sentenced in Madison County Court on Friday. Abdirashid Noor, 53, will serve one to three years in prison for the death of Charlee King, a student at Mott Road Elementary School. On June 28, 2023, Noor crashed into Charlee's vehicle when he illegally attempted to overtake the car in front of him on Route 31 in the Town of Sullivan.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Upstate University Hospital officials gathered Friday to commemorate Donate Life Month. The commemoration is held throughout April and seeks to bring awareness to the importance of organ donation. Franci Vanwie, an organ donor and whose husband, Ken, was also an organ donor, said that her husband had a philosophy that you cannot take your organs with you when you die. She said her family knows what it's like to have chronic health issues.

SALINA, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Transportation is alerting drivers to upcoming lane reductions along Interstate 81 to paint the Airport Boulevard Bridge in the Town of Salina. Interstate 81 Northbound will be reduced to one lane between Exit 27 to the Syracuse Airport and Exit 28 to North Syracuse. This will be every weekday, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., beginning April 21 through May 2.
