The gender pensions gap is stubbornly wide, even across younger generations and in spite of over ten years of auto-enrolment. Assumptions about women are seemingly hard wired into the jobs market.

Any anniversary is about looking back (not always in anger). So, if I may be permitted some personal reminiscences, the period from 1995 to 1997 was a pretty special time for me. As I’ve written before, that post-Cold War/pre-9.11 world feels, in retrospect, like a time of hope and change – particularly if you came of age during that period. I turned 17 in 1995 and voted in my first election in 1997 (I won’t say who for, but it wasn’t out of step with the national mood).

The FCA has started criminal proceedings against Kerry Nelson and Jacqueline Stephens for alleged fraud, forgery, and money laundering. Nelson was director of both Nexus Independent Financial Advisers (IFA) and Nexus Investment Managers. Stephens was business operations manager at the same firms. Both have been charged with allegedly defrauding four clients between January 2019 and January 2023, out of £2m.

The Financial Conduct Authority has officially removed the requirement for firms to appoint a Consumer Duty board champion. In an update published yesterday (27 February), the regulator said that, from that date, it no longer expects firms to have a Duty champion, although “they can retain the role should they wish to do so”.
