    A “very run-down” shopping centre is set to be revamped, costing more than £2 million. Castle Point Council has agreed to spend £2,154,600 on the refurbishment of the Knightswick Shopping Centre on Canvey Island and to provide a further  £816,700 of funding for the project as part of the final figure. According to council documents, the centre has 28 ground-floor shop units inside and around a covered mall built in 1978. The council purchased the shopping centre in October 2019.

    Plans for a retirement complex with bungalows, flats and a care home, on green belt land in Wickford have been scaled back. Great Broomfield Developments Limited submitted plans for the demolition and partial demolition of existing commercial buildings and construction of six retirement bungalows, 29 retirement apartments and a 70 bedroom care home at Great Broomfields, Cranfield Park Road. These plans were submitted to Basildon Council in December 2022 and later withdrawn in late 2024.

Basildon Council is planning to overhaul the Westgate Shopping Park and plant trees beside it to “create a pedestrian-priority street.” Plans for the development say building work would happen in phases.
