Danielle Belton is the new Conservative leader of Rochford District Council after the Liberal Democrats and Non-Aligned Group, which formed the previous administration, stepped back. Cllr Belton, is now the first female leader of the council, which is now back in the control of the Conservatives two years after the party was voted out.

    Plans have been submitted to build 325 “high-quality” new homes on a number of fields in Wickford. Gleeson Land and Avant Homes are working on the proposals, which also include public open space, children’s play areas, and wildlife areas. The development is on a plot off Oak Crescent and very close to Barn Hall Recreational Ground. The initial plans include a mix of one, two, three, and four-bedroom homes, with up to 50 per cent of the homes being ‘affordable’.

    An Essex district is set to see 17,000 new homes being built in what the local MP has called an “insane” and “unacceptable” plan. Mark Francois, Tory MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, made the comment over Rochford Council’s local plan on where housing and other development should go over the next few decades.
