    MARSHALL CO., Ala. (WAFF) - Officials with the Tennessee Valley Authority warned the public of the annual return of an invasive species of eelgrass in the Guntersville Reservoir. According to TVA’s Aquatic Plant Management Program Director Stephen Turner, the plant is not native to the area. He said it grows quickly and in thick patches at the top of the water, Turner said while it’s in the lake year-round, its peak growth is in the warmer months of the year.

    HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Huntsville police officers gave WAFF 48 more details in a recent sting operation leading to the arrest of nine men. Huntsville Police Sergeant Chris Jackson said the operation involved officers posing as children online, only to be contacted by the accused men. “It’s an online handle,” Jackson said.

    DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - The capital murder trial for Fredric Rogers began testimony on Tuesday. During opening statements, his attorney admitted to the jury that the evidence would ultimately prove him guilty. He said he will fight against his client receiving the death penalty. Rogers is on trial for the murder of seven people in Valhermoso Springs back in 2020.

    DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - Community members and members of the city council said they are not tolerating hate speech, starting with the removal of graffiti under a bridge. The graffiti said, “We dare to defend our rights” with a link to Patriot Front’s website. The group is recognized as a hate group by organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center. “It was alarming,” Morgan County NAACP President Rodney Gordon said. “We’re healing. We’re trying to regroup, rebuild, and recharge.

    DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - Residents and city officials are in an uproar after a racist banner was hung over Highway 20 and similarly racist graffiti was found in another part of the city. The banner read, “White men built our city, white men will save our city.” It was written on a white banner. The graffiti had similar racist language written on an underpass.
