A 17-year-old boy is in hospital after a fight outside a Laval high school ended with him being stabbed in the upper body, according to police. The attack took place outside Ecole PolyJeunesse on Ste-Rose Boulevard just after 2:30 pm. The victim was rushed to a hospital. He is expected to survive his injuries. Police have arrested a 15-year-old male in connection with the case. The investigation is ongoing.

A Montreal neurosurgeon says a commonly used drug to treat brain cancer patients is overused and actually impedes the patient’s immune response. Dexamethasone, also known as Decadron, is widely prescribed to reduce swelling during brain surgery. Dr. Charles Couturier, a neurosurgeon-scientist at the Montreal Neurological Institute, was part of an international team of scientists that looked at certain cells in brain tumours that suppress the immune system.

Mont Royal Avenue is one of Montreal's most popular pedestrian-only streets during the summer, but cars have returned this week. However, there is a movement to keep the car ban year-round, but Project Montreal City Councillor Marianne Giguere said it's not ready to go there yet. "Nobody's ready for that right now," she said. The bus issue is complex and we need answers to this." City buses typically run along Mont-Royal, but are moved to Saint-Joseph Boulevard during the summer.
