Laurie Rice, who lives in Weed, said her daughter, her daughter’s partner and their 5-year-old son, Jameson were heading to the coast.     ASHLAND, Ore. – Last week, the Oregon Health Authority issued a ‘recreational use advisory’ for Emigrant Lake due to concerns over toxic algae, but the Talent Irrigation District (TID) and Jackson County Parks said there’s zero data indicating harmful algae blooms in the lake. The OHA has been warning folks of cyanobacteria blooms, advising against swimming and high-speed water activities. Emigrant Lake is one of the water sources for the TID.

    OREGON – The Oregon Health Authority is warning people of algae blooms in bodies of water in our area, like Emigrant Lake. A local vet says it can be potentially life threatening to dogs. Cyanobacteria, the blue-green algae, produces toxins. When ingested from warm, still water, such as lakes, ponds and some slow-moving rivers, it can cause severe health concerns. The OHA said children and pets are at increased risk of exposure because of their size and level of activity.
