A judge Wednesday refused to compel former West Linn Dr. David B. Farley to answer further deposition questions in a pending civil suit over patient allegations of sexual abuse, finding he lawfully invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. “He’s excused from answering questions due to that privilege,” Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Souede ruled after an hourlong hearing Wednesday.

A 29-year-old man is accused of hauling 270 pounds of methamphetamine from southern California into Oregon Saturday in a rented pickup truck, according to prosecutors. FBI agents, working with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, obtained warrants to track the geolocation data of two phones they suspected Anthony Barrera was using to transport large loads of methamphetamine, according to a federal affidavit.

Attorneys for more than 150 women and children suing former West Linn doctor David B. Farley on allegations of sexual abuse are urging a judge to compel him to answer specific questions as part of his deposition. Farley, who has not been criminally charged, repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment right during a Sept. 11, 2024, civil deposition by his accusers’ attorneys in Portland. His civil attorney and criminal defense lawyers were present for the deposition.

A Canby police captain remains on paid leave while state prosecutors review allegations that he used a police infrared thermal-imaging device during a deer-hunting trip. Capt. Doug Kitzmiller, 50, has been on leave since mid-December after state police initiated a criminal misdemeanor investigation in Clackamas County, according to Canby Police Chief Jorge Tro. The state made hunting with thermal and infrared devices illegal several years ago.
