    Some 25% fewer electric vehicles were registered in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry. Was that a blip, or have electrical vehicle sales plateaued? And what's the forecast for electric vehicle sales in 2025? A browse through RTÉ’s archives shows that it is now 44 years since journalist Caroline Erskine did one of the first reports about electric car sales in Ireland.

    Report Paul MurphyAll the runners in the great election race, whether they passed the winning post or not, came in for congratulations today from Cllr Brian Fitzgerald. He also thanked  when Meath County councillors met for their last meeting of the year. Two absentees were notable – Aisling Dempsey, former councillor and now TD for Meath West and Gillian Toole, former councillor and now TD for Meath East.

    How it started... Meath East elected three incumbent TDs and one new first-time Independent TD after two lengthy days of counting in Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA club. On Saturday night, Fine Gael's deputy leader Helen McEntee topped the poll to take the first seat. Counting was adjourned for the night and Sinn Féin's Darren O’Rourke was the second TD elected shortly after lunchtime on Sunday.

    The Nation Decides tomorrow in 43 constituenciesPolling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm tomorrow. Here in Meath we have two of the constituencies which will have seven TD’s elected to the 43rd Dáil. Meath East is a four seater up.
