They may have different political stripes, but the candidates at the Halton Hills Chamber’s latest town hall meeting could all agree: something has got to be done to make life and housing more affordable for local residents. It was a long process, but Halton Hills Council has managed to make some minor cuts to next year’s proposed budget. Following two days of budget meetings this week, council ultimately reduced next year’s potential property tax hike from the 9.14 per cent proposed in the mayor’s budget to 9.01 per cent on the Town portion of the tax bill. Dozens of floats toured along the lengthy Guelph Street route to the downtown core. The parade has been a regular Christmas event since 1932 and has been organized each year by Lions Club of Georgetown members, assisted by scores of community volunteers.
